This copies the pattern God established during creation week. If God didn’t create in six days and rest for one, then this command was meaningless. Now they say this partly because they believe the fossil record is millions of years old. You can’t claim a fallen creation is on the same level as the perfect, infallible Word of God! Genesis tells us that God “created them male and female.” This clashes with the secular view that’s popular today, that gender is just something society has created and if you don’t feel that you fit that gender you can switch. But we didn’t invent gender—God did. Now in our sin-cursed world many people do struggle with identity. But this doesn’t mean we should encourage people to reject who God created them to be and embrace sinful behavior. We need to direct them to God’s Word and the gospel. Freedom isn’t found in embracing sinful behaviors. It comes from being forgiven and freed from the power of sin by Jesus. Yesterday we learned that long ages for earth’s history didn’t come from the rocks themselves but from scientists who rejected God’s Word and made assumptions about the rocks. But hasn’t radiometric dating proved the millions of years? Well, this dating method is founded on assumptions that can’t be proven and appear to be, well, false! Take, for example, Mount St. Helens in Washington state. It was dated to between half a million and nearly three million years old. But the rocks of Mount St. Helens were formed just forty-five years ago when the volcano erupted! Radiometric dating doesn’t confirm an old earth.
