This week marks the year anniversary of taking the first step towards leaving my marriage and separating from my husband. NC law says that married couples must be separated for a year and a day before filing for divorce, so I am ready for this very long chapter to finally reach its end point and start a new one. Addiction is one of the most stigmatized diseases in the world, and it is time that we talk about it. 47% of kids in the U.S. have used a drug by the time they graduate high school. If we are not willing to start the conversation, we are letting our children fall through the cracks. Tiffany was a bright and ambitious teenager who turned to drugs to deal with her anxiety, and it destroyed her life. She lied, stole, and hurt those closest to her. She was eventually able to turn her life around, and get back on track, but not everyone gets so lucky. We should use Tiffany's story to learn how we can help and our loved ones, and possibly even prevent these kinds of spirals outright. Tiffany now advocates for those impacted by addiction, helping to remind those who are also on the road to recovery that they are not alone. Cerebral Palsy is a term that most people recognize, but most don't really understand that entails. Sam the Barber is from Kosovo, former Yugoslovia. He and his siblings became refugees and they split up all over the globe in search of a new start. Sam came to the US to make a new life for himself, and he did that by becoming a barber!
